Un vaso de agua:
un gesto sencillo a nuestro alcance,
como hacer contacto visual y ofrecer una sonrisa,
extender una mano y compartir un abrazo,
contestar una llamada y prestar un oído atento.
Un vaso de agua:
un gesto sencillo para practicar lo que enseñamos,
como alimentar a la hambrienta y cubrir al desnudo,
cuidar a la enferma y visitar al encarcelado,
abrir la puerta y dar la bienvenida al extraño.
El discipulado no es
un proyecto grandioso de una vez en la vida
realizado con el afán
de la autopreservación y la notoriedad.
El discipulado es al contrario
una colección diaria de pequeños actos de devoción
que pueden pasar desapercibidos
pero que marcan la diferencia
para quienes los reciben,
enriquecen las vidas
de quienes los ofrecen,
y transforman el mundo
donde ambos habitan,
porque ningún gesto de amabilidad
es jamás demasiado pequeño.

A cup of water:
a simple gesture within our reach,
like making eye contact and offering a smile,
extending a hand and sharing a hug,
answering a call and lending an ear.
A cup of water:
a simple gesture to practice what we teach,
like feeding the hungry and clothing the naked,
caring for the sick and visiting the imprisoned,
opening the door and welcoming the stranger.
Discipleship is not
a once-in-a-lifetime grandiose project
performed for the sake
of self-preservation and notoriety.
Discipleship is rather
a daily collection of small acts of devotion
that may go unnoticed
but make all the difference
to the ones who receive them,
enrich the lives
of the ones who give them,
and transform the world
that both inhabit,
because no gesture of kindness
is ever too small.
